In contrast to GPT-4o, the focus of GPT-4.5 is on creative tasks. The model is characterized by high emotional intelligence, improved communication skills, and original brainstorming approaches. Although GPT-4.5 is similar to GPT-4o in many respects, it is the preferred choice for creative projects. Currently, however, usage is limited to 20 requests per week.
The models o4-mini, o4-mini-high, and o3 were specifically developed for complex reasoning structures. o4-mini is particularly suitable for technical and scientific tasks, programming projects, and visual thinking. For higher computing power and accuracy, OpenAI recommends o4-mini-high, which was designed for advanced programming, complex mathematical calculations, and in-depth scientific analysis. o3 goes one step further and is ideal for demanding, multi-stage tasks such as strategic planning, detailed analyses, extensive coding processes, advanced mathematics, and complex scientific explanations. All three models can process images, documents, and CSV files. However, usage is limited: o4-mini allows 300 requests per day, o4-mini-high 100 requests per day, and o3 100 requests per week.
o1-pro is recommended for tasks where logical precision is paramount. Although response generation may take a little longer, the model delivers reliable results for highly complex tasks, according to OpenAI. Example prompts are "Develop an algorithm for financial forecasting based on theoretical models" or "Create a multi-page summary of current research on new technologies".
OpenAI's model diversity offers the right tool for every application. For daily use, GPT-4o is recommended due to its versatility, real-time capabilities, and unlimited usage. For creative tasks, GPT-4.5 is the better choice, while the o-models are optimized for specialized, complex tasks. The choice of the right model ultimately depends on the specific requirements of the user.
